At the heart of the Expo 2020 site stands Al Wasl Plaza, a venue hosting the opening ceremony and a bustling daily schedule of ceremonies, live performances, immersive shows, and concerts.

Ptarmigan were an integral part of the Woodroffe Bassett team from the outset, with responsibility for the technical design of the show lighting systems.

Our mission was to seamlessly transform the space into a dynamic venue while preserving the architectural splendour. To achieve this,we meticulously designed a lighting rig that seamlessly integrates into the structure without detracting from its inherent beauty.

Al Wasl Plaza, boasting a towering height of 67 meters and a diameter of 130 meters, features 252 video projectors and an immersive sound system.

This expansive outdoor venue, set against the challenging desert conditions, necessitated pushing the boundaries of technology and creative problem-solving.

Our comprehensive scope encompassed systems design, installation oversight, and systems commissioning for all the show lighting systems, ensuring the successful realisation of this remarkable project.
